Where physics needs the indexical, why that is not the same as needing consciousness, and what survives of the idea that a theory can eat its own evidence.

Physics describes the world exclusively in terms of structure and dynamics, and Newman’s 1928 result shows that purely structural knowledge reduces to a cardinality claim plus mathematics. Set beside the inner case — intrinsic character given, structural role not — this yields an exact inversion of epistemic profiles, and locates the explanatory gap somewhere other than where it is usually placed.
